Enterprise Network Y2K Audit, consisting of two phases. The first phase included network audit of a pre-determined number of schools, after which the Algonquin and Lakeshore CDSB had an opportunity to assess the work/documentation to that point. Any recommendations for improvement or changes were then incorporated into the final phase, which includes a full network audit of the remaining school sites, repairs to the phase one schools and new product roll out to selected schools.
Scope
43 Sites, 6 high schools, 37 elementary schools

Spread across a wide geography - 13,000 Sq KM
Access to be between hours of 4:00pm and 10:00pm
Audit Requirements
Inventory all "Network" equipment
1. Make
2. Serial number
3. Document software/firmware revisions
4. Determine status for Y2K
5. If not Y2K ready, identify upgrade
6. Implement minor fixes to software/firmware for Y2K readiness
7. Identify Closet locations, computer rooms and active components and document on each school floor plan.
Special Note on Cisco routers - Routers will be upgraded to the appropriate Y2K ready version of the IOS at the time of the school audit. ALCSB will provide a detailed list of IOS versions of each router in each location before the audit.
Determine if Equipment has been properly configured
1. Check access cabling structure
2. Ensure all ethernet hub rules have not been exceeded (i.e. hubs don't exceed four hops)
3. Ensure each independent ethernet segment is connected to an ethernet port on a managed hub or switch
4. Correct obvious wiring structure/connection problems
5. Determine design improvements for cable structure
6. Determine design improvements for active components
7. Suggest ways to better utilize current equipment i.e. relocate
8. Provide new product roll out/designs where required.
Provide Oracle database file with report summary outlining all above
Must provide a Cisco, 3Com, Ascend and Bay Networks knowledgeable engineer(s)
Must provide certified structure cable engineer
Advise on remote/centralized management options for overall network to be administrated at the board office.
Provide wiring/network logical diagrams for each school
