Enterprise Networking
Zycom Technology Inc. working with Cisco and in conjunction with Queen's
University's ITS Group together transformed Queen's high-speed ATM based
network into a new GB Ethernet network. The project included
networking numerous campus buildings, student residences, and WAN links utilized
for high volume internet traffic.
Objective of the project was to find a solution to connecting up the
Campus whereby the network "edge" devices used in buildings where high-volume traffic occurred, provided the following benefits to the campus.
- Lower costs
- a more centralized management approach
- Layer 3 switching
- IP & IPX routing
- local routing of subnets with secondary address
- access control list/logging & DHCP relay
- IOS capabilities
- less complexity
- and highest speed possible
